1. Introduction

Nigeria is one of the top 10 countries with the highest number of online scammers in the world.

There is a not so new scam in Nigeria, that is targeting many Nigerians, many people have fallen victim to this scam and they still don't know.

It is called "The Theobarth Grant Scheme Scam" and it might just be the greatest scam in Nigeria's history. They use terms like Beneficiaries, Poor masses, Cluster Heads, NGOs and so on

In Nigeria, we have had, various scam schemes like MMM, Loom, Racksterli and many more.

2. The Promise

Theobarth Scam promised to empower 38,895,500 people with a sum of 1800000 naira each meaning they plan to pay out (wow woah, this number is a bit scary) (Ha ha, this number is confusing me oo) 70,011,900,000,000.

70 trillion, 11 billion, 900 million naira. (Ha this one pass Nigeria budget oo).

3. Is it really a scam?

Well, Grants Don't ask that money be paid to access grants.

Unfortunately, their website is no longer active

But then fortunately, I happened to have some tech/research skills, so I decided to do further investigation into them, and I monitored the DNS which stands for Domain Name System and the number and information that was used to register the domain name http://theobarthglobalfoundation.com/ is +18022274003 which happens to be a famous number that is used in many scamming websites within and outside Nigeria. (oof) You can also take a look at the address.

4. How does the scam earn money?

Based on my research you have to pay a particular amount of money, to qualify for the "grant" and that is how they get their money, I checked out one of their Facebook group and it had about 77,000 members. Imagine that each of the 77,000 members paid 30,000 naira each, meaning the Scam Scheme has made about 2,310,000,000 (2 billion, 310 million naira) and only God knows how many other people who are not in the Facebook group chat have also paid that amount of money, I have heard reports of individuals who had also paid millions to the grant. As they make up other payments. for example processing fees.

5. Potential risks

Apart from the billions of naira lost by millions of people what other potential risks, can occur as a result of the scam.

Your Personal Information has been compromised (Stolen) I forgot they didn’t steal them, you gave it to them on a platter of Gold.

The information they collected such as Full Name, Address, Phone number, Email address, Bank Account details and in some cases BVN (Bank verification number)

This information can be sold on the dark web to people who might be able to use it to cause further harm.

6. What can you do now?

The best thing to do is to share with as many people as possible, so they don't fall victim.

And to those who have already fallen victim, try to avoid paying any more money they might want to trick you into paying.
