Nigeria like any other nation, has problems. In fact, Nigeria has problems that other countries cannot imagine as a problem. In today's video, we are going to talk about Nigeria's greatest problem and the reason why it is Nigeria's greatest problem.

Welcome to the African Economy, I can only hope you have subscribed.

Nigeria is a country located in West Africa, it is often regarded as the giant of Africa and it has a population of about 220 million people making it the largest population in Africa and the largest black population in the world, it has more than 250 ethics groups.

But we are not here to talk about its accomplishments, we are here to talk about its greatest problem.

Amidst serious problems like corruption, Insecurity, Poverty, Inequality, Unemployment, and Religious tensions, it is really scary that there is a far greater problem than the ones that were previously mentioned.

Corruption

Corruption in Nigeria is a tale as old as time itself, from the highest level of government to the lowest level of anarchy.

leaving no corner untouched.

And it has slowly become the new normal, I mean In February 2018, Philomina Chieshe a JAMB (Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board) Official claimed that a snake swallowed 36 million naira belonging to the agency, and guess what, the whole country made a joke about it.

A few days later the Senator’s aide claimed that a monkey stole 70 million naira that was missing in Kano and guess what, the whole country made an even bigger joke about the incident.

An average Nigerian knows some of the leaders are corrupt and they hate the leaders for it, they speak against them for it, but when you ask them what they would do in that position of leadership, they will tell you plainly that they would do the same.

Insecurity

Insecurity rears its ugly head in every nook and cranny of Nigeria, from the most sophisticated regions to the most primitive places. Nigeria makes countries like Afghanistan, Yemen and Serbia look like lovely places.

Boko Haram a terrorist Group that came to light in 2002

Let’s just move to 2024

In 2024 Monarchs were ambushed and killed, Multiple Soldiers, one captain and some Majors were killed and their organs were harvested.

An entire Estate in the Country’s capital was kidnapped.

And this is just a drop in the ocean of the level of Insecurity in Nigeria.

Poverty

Poverty a shadow that looms largely over the land, touching the lives of millions in its relentless grip. more than 133 million people are living in poverty. To survive some people have to do the most despicable things while some do even worse to thrive.

Inequality

Inequality of all forms, between genders, between age groups, between tribes, between the rich and the poor, and not just between them all, but also within.

Unemployment

Unemployment a cloud that looms large over the dreams and aspirations of millions, casting doubt upon the promise of a better tomorrow.

How does skill, merit and diligence single one out in a country with millions of others like yourself, if not better? A country with 146 private universities, if you think that is not too much you should know that the United Kingdom has only 5.

Hundreds of thousands of graduates are released every year, with little available jobs in the economy.

We hear the echoes of religious conflict, and we see the not-so-distant rumble of tribal conflict but of all the stated and unstated problems, sadly there is an even greater problem in Nigeria.

A paradox as old as time is that the self-inflicted wound that threatens to undermine the progress and prosperity of the nation of Nigeria is a dilemma.

I am sure that many Nigerians have come to the realization that Nigerians themselves are often Nigeria’s greatest problem.

Yes, you heard right, I am saying that Nigeria’s greatest problem is Nigerians.

An average American would wake up and say God bless America, but an average Nigerian would wake up and begin to distribute curses for Nigeria and its leaders.

Corruption is done by Nigerians to Nigeria and other Nigerians. The same goes for Insecurity, Inequality and many more.

Nigerians have failed their motherland, they said their mother’s soup is not sweet in the town hall.

Who speaks evil the most about Nigeria? it is Nigerians.

When British Colonized in 1884, who sold Nigerians to the white as slaves? Other Nigerians. But let's not break this table Just yet.

Rat ate your noodles, you are saying which kind Nigeria be this 😂

But in all seriousness at the end of the day, the most difficult enemy to defeat is yourself. As great as Alexander the Great was, he lost again himself.

Nigerians shouldn’t be the snake that bites its own tail, fixing Nigeria starts with fixing yourself as a Nigerian. God bless Nigeria.
