Do The Ends Justify The Means?
I battled with this question for a while, but now I know the answer, the answer to the question is simple. Do the Ends justify the means? Yes and No. I might have just complicated things a tiny bit but yeah, the ends justify the means and the end doesn’t justify the means.
The means are inconsequential, only the ends matter, I didn’t say that, Rita Stradling did. The reason why some people get farther than others is the length they are willing to go, the things they are willing to do and that might explain the power of sacrifice, the power that lies in serving the greater good. Meaning, maybe as long as the ends are achieved then the ends justify the means.
Let’s not be deceived the means do matter, but the question is if the ends justify the means and not if the means matter. Simone Well said, “Existence is not an end in itself but merely the framework upon which all good, both real and imagined, may be built.”
Then if existence is not an end in itself, it is the means, this shows how much significant the means is, life is not the end but simply the means.
Wilhelm Reich said, “The end is the means by which you achieve it”. I mean when one gets rich by killing the innocents, the end is no longer getting rich but killing the innocents, but back to the question does the ends justify the means? he got the ends but it doesn’t justify the means. Meaning, that the Ends doesn’t necessarily justify the means.
My view as a Christian helps put things into perspective, the answer like I said earlier, is simple. The answer lies in trying to be like christ, it lies in being Christ-like, check this out “I can do anything, go any length to get something done, achieve a goal, BUT within the will of God” Meaning whatever the mean(s) is/are if I don’t go outside the will of God, then there is no problem with the means and the end do justify the means but if I go outside the will of God during said means then the ends do not justify the means.
This makes total sense, there is a conditional statement, “the will of God” it makes the whole difference.
For some people, logic takes the place of the will of God as the bounding line too if the ends justify the means or not, but logic is not enough, logic cannot take the place of faith, I mean think about it, the world is where it is today because we thought logic was the answer since the answer to the question varies on if the means are within or not within God’s will, then it is time to ask yourself that question, in what you have done in the past, did the ends justify the means. In what you are currently doing, do the ends justify the means?
