I am not a sucker for the system, never have been, in fact I work the system well, I know how to manipulate it, and thrive in it.

A bureaucracy is an administrative, government, or social system with a hierarchical structure and complex rules and regulations(investopedia.com). Bureaucracy according to britannica.com is a specific form of organization defined by complexity, division of labour, permanence, professional management, hierarchical coordination and control, strict chain of command, and legal authority.

I had to fill up some forms with a bunch of signatures from different departments of a particular institution to get an official document I needed, like you would expect it wasn't as easy as I imagined or who knows maybe it was just harder than I imagined, and like all of you I began to question the essence of such hard work to get something I think I deserve. I said to myself “Oh God, I hate all this excessive bureaucracy ” I know, I know ‘excessive bureaucracy’, such redundancy, only an imaginative person would know the extent of its redundancy, kind of like saying “a period of time” or saying “true fact”.

I started with my Curriculum Vitae of how good I am in a system, maybe I should have started with how much I dreaded bureaucracy, I mean imagine the number of steps in getting a loan, in getting into a university, in getting your name changed, the amount of time it takes to process an application, imagine you not only have to pay taxes, but also the stress, calculation and so on that you do to give them your own money.

While walking down to the library to put some of my ulterior motives into action, I figured I could just write about the effect of bad bureaucracy, the pain it can cause which in my case was extra money than I had and more time that I had, the time was already planned on, I can imagine myself watching The Blacklist as I type this, thinking to myself is Raymond Reddington Elizabeth's mother Katarina Rostova and will the writers change the ending of the blacklist, If I talked about it on the TV show’s community, I digress. Point line I might have had a lot of time but I wasn’t willing to spend it on the problems of bureaucracy.

There I was, trying my best to stop thinking about Raymond’s real identity and how I could revolutionize the end of bureaucracy, till the strangest thing happened.

Bureaucracy spoke to me

Okay, okay, I am not so sure if bureaucracy spoke to me but whatever spoke to me argued bureaucracy’s case and certainly argued it well, are you ready for the unexpected turn of events?

Bureaucracy should be thanked, and yes it is still Modupe writing, why should it be thanked? you wonder, bureaucracy helps decentralize power, you guys like blockchain right? I mean I still look at web3 and (let me keep my comments to myself) I know writers should be bold to express their opinions and my bio says it all.

Like I said bureaucracy helps decentralizes power and the last thing we need now is tyranny, I said fascism, not North Korea, bureaucracy helps to impose accountability on the ones that are not accounted for, and bureaucracy ensures there is a loophole against the powerful, bureaucracy makes it possible for a revolution to occur without the shedding of blood.

If society was a clock, bureaucracy is the battery, and if your clock doesn’t use a battery then bureaucracy is whatever makes your clock work, it is checks and balances for a complicated system, without bureaucracy the possibility for chaos increases at a geometric rate.

I don’t thank my battery for making my clock work, so I shouldn't thank bureaucracy for making a society work right? but the consequences of my clock not working is far more less than my society not working, so maybe I should thank bureaucracy.

Thank you bureaucracy, I still don’t like you but thank you.

I don’t like bureaucracy, never have, never will but I understand it is a price to pay for order, it is a sacrifice we all have to pay for a functioning society so don’t kill bureaucracy, no death to bureaucracy.
