Not to sound too mysterious there are secret principles hidden in the Bible. The Bible is our blueprint to living the best life and when we study and meditate on it more closely we notice that some principles and mysteries can give us an edge to living that best life in Christ Jesus.

Today I want to talk about the principle of getting things from God. We would be using the Book of 1 Kings 3:9.

"Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?"

The result of what he did/asked can be found in 1 Kings 3:11-14.

"Verse 11 - So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice,

Verse 12 - I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.

Verse 13 - Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for—both wealth and honor—so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings.

Verse 14 - And if you walk in obedience to me and keep my decrees and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life.”

May people think/assume that the reason why God blessed him so much was because he asked for wisdom, but that is not entirely true. I can still remember when I was younger and after the church service the pastor would tell us to ask for just one thing from God in faith and it would be done. Now because I wanted a lot of things and I could only ask for one, I would ask for Wisdom because I figured all other things were going to be added to it.

Years after, when I studied the Bible more, the Holy Spirit revealed to me what I did not notice/see initially.

Let's take a closer look at 1 Kings 3:9 what do we see?

1 Kings chapter 3 verse 11 reveals to us that it wasn't so much about what Solomon asked but the reason he asked.

We can all agree that Solomon asked for the right thing, but then he also asked for the right reason. THE WHY is as important as THE WHAT.

When the right thing meets the right motive, then God will definitely give it to you.

Solomon asked for Wisdom (the right thing) and he asked for wisdom so that he would be able to Judge the people of God(The right reason).

You should note, that you cannot help God, but you can offer yourself to be used by him. If you then ask God what would make you useful to him, then God will give it to you.

  • GOD give me money so I can finance the work of God on earth. God will give it to you.
  • God give me healing power so I can heal the sick children of God. God will give it to you.

But be not be deceived

Galatians 6:7-8

"Do not be deceived; God is not mocked..." Remember God cannot be mocked. In Jeremiah 17:10 the Bible says "I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve."

I Samuel 16:7 explains that God sees the heart.

That means that if you don't mean what you say, God knows.

Do you not have hands, tell God you need them to clap.

Can you not talk, tell God you need them to sing to him.

Can you not hear, tell God you need them to listen to his word and the sound of the beautiful things he created.

Are you sick, tell God you need your health so you can praise him better and receive your healing right now.

With the right request and the right motive, what you want it done.
