I will assume you know what snails are. I keep them because of these 7 reasons.

I keep snails because of their meat;

Snail meat is very nutritious, tasty and has a very unique flavour, it has the same protein content, if not more, as chicken and pork yet it has very low cholesterol, which makes it a great choice of meat for people with a heart condition, diabetes, high blood pressure and so on. Snail meat is basically the non-fat sweet yoghurt of the meat world.

I keep snails because of the price;

Snails can be very expensive, of course, and this differs from location to location, the meat of snail per kg is about 12 times more expensive than pork, yet the cost of producing snail is ridiculously cheap, why is it expensive then? one might wonder. In other words, it is way cheaper to keep/rear snails than to buy them.

I keep snails because of their slime;

Snails secrete a mucus-like substance that is referred to as slime, apparently, pharmaceutical industries use this a lot in their products, snail slime is said to be a wonder on the skin and the other properties that snail slime is said to have is borderline unbelievable.

I keep snails because of their medicinal value;

I already talked about how nutritious the meat of snail is and how it is good for people with certain medical conditions, but in the middle ages the people in the Roman empires used snail in treating some illnesses, current research done on snail shows that it has:

  • Omega-3 fatty acids: Good for brain development, especially for children.
  • Glycoprotein: which is believed to contain cancer-fighting properties.

"Snail, a key inducer of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), plays an important role in cancer metastasis."

In a journal, it was said that

“Notably, the functional importance of Snail in ovarian cancer suggests that it may serve as a therapeutic target for treating ovarian cancer."

I keep snails because they require less space and simple housing

Another reason I keep snails is that they do not require a lot of space, and constructing their house is simple.

I keep snail because of profit

"Fifty thousand (50,000) snails after two years sold at the rate of 200 nairas each (highly reduced price) will give you about 10 million nairas." this is what a newspaper said about snail farming. This is one of the main reasons why I keep them, I just had to bury them in other points.

I keep snail, hoping to write a useful book on them;

Imagine a book that talks about various useful topics that can help you start rearing/keeping snails successfully on your own, well here is it
